The Streets

I applied to be a freelance music writer for the Sacramento News and Review [thanks for the tip, Camille] and heard back last week that they were interested. My first job is to review the Streets show I went to last night. I wasn't sure if I'd be going until about an hour and a half before the show when I heard back from the band's publicist that I was on the list. The show was great! [that's not my review]

Sacramento models

I went for a bike ride yesterday hoping to get a photo of a giant tree that fell onto someone's home. I was too late because these guys had already taken care of it. I wanted a photo of the house and the part of the sidewalk shredded by the falling tree but I got this instead.

Falling leaves and logs

This morning I woke up at 6 am to the sounds of thrashing leaves and pouring rain. I fell back asleep and a few hours later I was woken up by the sound of a chainsaw. Someone in a yellow vest was poking at the ground with it - in the pouring rain! I think they might have been checking to see how secure the tree in front of my house was. I hope it was someone official and not a hit man. During my drive home from an interview this morning I saw a small honda with it's rooftop flattened down to the front seat level. There was a giant log lying next to the car. I hope nobody was inside when the branch/log fell. These photos were taken two blocks away from my place.

New drawings

I was reading on my porch and a hummingbird flew right up to my face and hovered for a bit. A few hours later I saw two downy woodpeckers chirping and looking for food in the tree in my front yard.
