It's my party and I'll do what I want to

Happy Birthday B!

This was taken at a cute wine bar in San Francisco that we sat at for almost 2 hours in the sun. The wine was really good and so was the people watching. Of course, the best part of the weekend was seeing Grizzly Bear on Sunday. We got there early and were super, super close to the stage. They sang all of my favourites like Deep Blue Sea, Colorado, and Ready Able.

I tricked B into going to the beach for a short walk by telling him there was free parking. He thought I meant there was free parking and then we could walk to the Museum of Modern Art, even though that's at the other end of the city.

I've wanted to go to the MoMa since we moved here so I was pretty excited to go. I knew we'd be there for a while but B is a little slower than me when it comes to reading EVERY SINGLE CARD describing the art. I was glad that there were benches throughout the galleries.

I paid 20$ to see this in the gallery and then a few hours later I saw this at Union Square for FREE.

A group of us went to Stinson beach two weeks ago.

Emily and I were playing frisbee in the water when we heard a loud horn, which we later learned means there's a shark in the water. Oops. We lived to tell the tale!

Rowwwr!

Tomorow is the Grizzly Bear concert in SF. I can hardly wait! We're also going to be doing some shopping and going to art galleries.

Personal hygiene

Even though she didn't want one, Niki and I hosted a wedding shower for Camille because we do what we want.  I am really, really excited for her upcoming wedding.

Anatomical heart

Oh boy.  I spent 2 hours last night and 4 hours today trying to make a 3D anatomical heart out of PAPER.  What was I thinking?  I tried three different things and none came out the way I wanted so I settled with a plain ol' heart that I raised on the main piece of paper with a thicker piece of carboard.

Fifty birds and two cats

This morning I drew and coloured about 50 birds for a project I'm working on.  Jag and Llorca hung out with me like this for most of the morning.  It was the best.

So that my birds are mainly the same size I draw my main image in pencil on a piece of tracing paper.

Then I flip the tracing paper over and retrace the image onto the actual paper I want to work on.  Doing it this way reminds me of all the old tracings I saw at the Warner Brothers exhibit at the Crocker a few months ago.  Since there was more than one artist working on drawing cartoon characters for the show there would be a template for a character, like Tweety bird.  That way all the artists would have the right proportions no matter who was working on it.  There were even specifications for eye distances and expressions.

I was talking to my Mum on the phone while I was colouring the birds and she said the funniest thing I've heard all day, "Quinoa tastes like dust, and I should know because I eat dust all the time".

Birds

I got this idea the other day when I was biking with Charmaine to our tennis game.  I made it this afternoon using watercolour pencils, ink, glue and paper I bought at Office depot that is supposed to be used for fancy resumes.

I still need to flatten it out.
